"Alternate" or "Desktop" Torrent for 8.04?

Hi, I'm going to connect to a Torrent to upgrade to my box from Gutsy to Hardy Xubuntu 8.04, but I was wondering... Should I hit the "Alternate" link or "Desktop" link? Do you know what the difference is? Thanks for your help. By the way, if you want to do a torrent as well instead of using the main server, here's the link I found for torrents:

Since you are upgrading from gutsy to hardy you would use the alternate version. See http://ptcbus.blogspot.com/2008/04/upgrading-from-ubuntu-710-gutsy-gibbon.html for a similar upgrade for ubuntu.

Why do you need the alternate CD to upgrade? Will the live CD not work?
