Launcher title problem after upgrade from Gutsy

I noticed that after I upgraded (everything else seems fine so far) that the launchers on my desktop that originally had no names (so basically icons with just the image and no text bar underneath) now all have .desktop file names, and I am unable to revert them back to how they were.

This is a very specific look that like I like with my laptop, so if there is something someone can recommend, please do!

Thumbnails on folders are awfully small as well, but I just got ProjectM with Qt working, so I am happy at the moment, although it would be great to get these launchers working.

So I have decided this is a metacity problem obviously, as I have read other problems of the such around the forums.

Although no answer to this question specifically.

My desktop is TERRIBLY messy, please help?
