Hardy upgrade - Update Manager stops responding

I'm trying to upgrade to Hardy on my Gutsy laptop, but I'm getting a problem where when I click to upgrade in the Update manager, it stops responding.

I have tried reinstalling the update manager, but it still crashes when I try to upgrade.

Any ideas on how I can repair this?

The servers are being hammered at the moment, its most probably trying to contact them and waiting. You may be killing it before it can get a connection. Wait a few hours and try again.

The servers are slow. But the bit-torrents are very fast.
