I tried a fresh install as a host for vmware 6. No matter what option I chose, it freezes. I can do an upgrade from 7.04 though, and that is the route I will go. Frustrating and oh so Window-esk! Anyone else have this issues? I downloaded 2 iso's from different sites, and have 8 other versions of linux on this PC as hosts with no issues.

I have the same problem as you when I tried to install ubuntu 8.04 with WMware 6.0.0.
I disable the ethnet from the wmware settings, chose an option when intalling wmware: "Do not use network..." and I have installed successfully.
You can also use the iso file directly with the option "use iso image" from virtual machine setting - CD-Rom
Hope this help!

Did you run /usr/local/bin/vmware-config.pl ?
