Got the following error when booting 8.04-desktop-i386 as LiveCD:

There was an error starting the GNOME Settings Daemon.

Some things, such as themes, sounds, or background settings may not work correctly.

The last error message was:

Did not receive a reply. Possible causes include: the remote application did not send a reply, the message bus security policy blocked the reply, the reply timeout expired, or the network connection was broken.

GNOME will still try to restart the Settings Daemon next time you log in.

/var/log/messages attached. Boot continued into usable system.

I'd burn a new CD at 4x or less after doing md5sum. If not, use the Alternate CD.

I, too, am having problems with the Live CD, although mine sound different than yours.

I am suspcious that there is a problem with the .iso file being released.
