Hello all. In sort, I can't "pick" a new wallpaper for my desktop...

I've installed Ubuntu 8.04 a few weeks ago, and I enjoy(ed) it very much. I started customizing my working environment, including Compiz Fusion and such.
Today, however, I decided I needed a change, and looked for more wallpapers. I downloaded some, but when I enter "Change Desktop Background", and click add, the images don't appear by default -- I need to change the setting from "Images" to "All Files" in order to see them.
Then, when I choose a new background and "Open" it, it will just pop up the same dialog, showing the existing images, without the one(s) I'm trying to load.

I'm hopeless -- Google didn't help me find the answer I am looking for, so I hoped you could help. What can I do to solve this?

you could try to remove .gnome and .gnome2 folder in your home drive. It reset a lot of stuff. But I wouldn't suggest you do this, if there is a fix.
