View Full Version : [ubuntu] Hardy detected wrong video card
April 24th, 2008, 07:01 PM
When I went to install the restricted driver for my graphics card, Hardy told me that I have an ATI fire GL card. I do NOT have an ATI fire GL card, I have a radeon mobility x700 that was detected fine in gutsy. The box is checked, but says that the driver is not in use. What is going on here? I need my video driver!Should I try to reinstall?
*EDIT* Solved by reinstalling Hardy

Looks like we're in the same boat. My ATI Radeon Mobility x300 was detected as an ATI Fire GL, as well.
I understand the Fire GL to be a workstation video driver, but how the confusion is happening is far beyond my scope, not to mention how to fix the problem.
Could somebody please help us out?
Mine just worked itself out. Not sure how. Bizarre.

I had this problem too. I'm pretty sure I know how it fixed itself.
When I first installed I tried to go into add/remove programs and it failed to get the latest lists.(serevers are probably getting hammered) Anyway I tried refressing in synaptic untill it worked and once the latest lists were downloaded I went into restricted drivers and it was now unchecked and let me download the latest version. Once I rebooted I was greeted with pretty effects. :P
(Oh, I have a radeon 200m card)
