View Full Version : [gnome] Filetype associations not universal

I have my default applications set. That is, when I open a video file in Nautilus it will open in the application I intended it to, SMPlayer. However, if I open a video file from, say, Deluge or Gnome-Do it will open in Totem. This is a real pain for me, as Totem doesn't really meet my needs.

I have changed System>Preferences>Preferred Applications so that for media the default is "smplayer %s", but that doesn't make a difference.

Does anyone have any suggestions?

(I am using Hardy, updated from the beta.)

I think you need to change to Mime-types manually. Have a look at http://manpages.ubuntu.com/manpages/dapper/man5/gnome-mime.html and
http://ubuntuforums.org/showthread.php?t=150393

Ubuntu needs a gui for this sort of thing, I've been stuck with similar problems for ages but just worked around them.

Haven't tried these yet but will let you know how I go.
I'm now using 8.04 Hardy Heron
