Ubuntu 8.04 brightness problem

Hi all,

I just installed ubuntu 8.04 on my laptop asus but I am having pproblems with the screen brightness: it's a lot dark.
I have read this is a bug, and the solution is to switch to battery ac and then plug in it. It works...but I'd like to know if anyone has solved the problem with code.

Have you tried unchecking "Dim display when idle" in power management?

I had the same problem.
When I would start my laptop the screen would be dim and each time I would have to manually change the brightness. On my laptop it's Fn+Home.

Since I have unchecked the screen dimming option it doesn't do that anymore.
