Yes, it is rather silly, i am not a graphic artist, i just want to do this as a hobby.

There is a logo available in Inkscape. Go to File>Import From Open Clip Art Library and search for Ubuntu. Get the inktut_makeubuntulogo.svg

A good place for Inkscape tutorials is heathenx (http://screencasters.heathenx.org/) in case you want to customize the logo.

That's interesting that you say this.

I had been using GIMP for years and only just recently tried Inkscape.

I found Inkscape to be far more intuitive and in many cases more straightforward to use. And for most of my uses it is also just as powerful.

Perhaps the deficiency is on my part, perhaps Inkscape just rocks.
