wireless manager is broken

I am using ubuntu 7.10 which was an upgrade from 7.04 upgraded from 6.10. The wireless was working until I had to reinstall 7.10 on my laptop. The network_manager does not now correctly handle my 10 ascii character passphrase. After entering into network_manager I use "sudo iwconfig eth1" to check the key and the encryption key is not correct. To get it correct I have to manually "sudo iwconfig eth1 key "passphrase". Then sudo ifconfig eth1 up manually to get connection.
Please fix this problem in wireless networking.
