Installing 7.10 onto an external HDD

I want to installing Ubuntu onto my external drive and I'm just curious if there is anything I should really be concerned about.
Another question, if I want GRUB to install onto the external drive, would it be easiest to disconnect my internal HDD and boot from the LiveCD and install using the Guided partitioning on my external?
