HI and I believe that automatix is no longer being developed
Look Here (http://www.getautomatix.com/forum/index.php?showtopic=2424)
And is not needed.

oh well it just was easier to have automatix than to install all the programs by yourself

But Automatix could screw up your Ubuntu installation, and it wasn't easily reversible.
If you install a bad program via Add/Remove programs, at least you can go back to the menu to remove the program, as if you never installed it in the first place.

Assuming you are running ubuntu:
sudo apt-get install ubuntu-restricted-extras
This will give you flash, java, msttcorefonts, mp3 codecs, and a load of other stuff in one metapackage.
