Oh for pity's sake.

I removed Evolution ('cos it's junk) and all that is associated with it including evolution-data-server-common. It sounds very evolution-like and turned up in the Evolution search so it got ticked in remove as well.
However that auto-removes gnome-panel & gnome-applets and a host of other stuff. You end up rebooting to no menu & no toolbars. It was days since my last reboot so I'd almost forgotten doing it.

apt-get install gnome-panel gnome-applets sorts it but fps why call it evolution-data-server-common if it isn't solely concerned with Evolution?

Reminded me of trying to rip IE out if win95.

Otchie1,

I had this problem today. Same exact symptoms...

Thanks for solving the problem for me.

Hi!

Same exact problem here. Being (sort of) a newbie to Linux, I'm glad I can count on Ubuntu Forums to get me out of trouble. Thanks for the solution, man!

Same here. Running Jaunty,

Last Update Manager updated quite a few things, including Firefox, openjdk, etc.

Applications menu is gone, but System menu is intact. However, the "Main Menu" choice under System|Preferences does not function.

How do we roll back to before the last update?

Just add a panel, then add to the panel. At least do it once so you know how to tailor to your taste!
