View Full Version : [ubuntu] id3 tag finding / renaming

Yeah, I have quite a few albums which aren't named properly at all, I know the name of the artist and the name of the album - but I'm too lazy to type all the tracks in myself.

I was wondering if anyone knew of any applications that will allow me to search for the album tags on the internet and then just automatically rename them for me.

Something similar to this: http://www.fixtunes.com/index.php

but for ubuntu, of course, would be great.

I'm using Quod Libet (http://www.sacredchao.net/quodlibet), which I know has a plugin for MusicBrainz (http://musicbrainz.org/) - which I think does what you want. I've never used MusicBrainz myself though.

By the way, Quod Libet comes with a very powerful tag editor called Ex Falso. I think both are in the universe repository.

I use Picard - an album based tagger directly from musicbrainz. Works real well:

I don't know about anyone else, but me and Picard have some unresolved issues. If you have the tracks in the correct order, you can use the CDDB search in Easytag, or if you have the track names in the filename but not the id3, or vice-versa, it'll batch them to whatever format you specify.

Worst thing about MusicBrainz, it doesn't contain even a fraction of the CDs I want to look up. It just can't match up with 10 years of busy data entry by users into freedb.
Maybe it's my taste of music. I don't know.

If you have albums that aren't in the musicbrainz database you should be adding them. I've only ever had a couple that weren't.

Oh boy, I've done that to two or three albums, and it's so cumbersome and overengineered, it's unbelievable. And their classical style guide is the worst possible way to tag ancient music.

EDIT: like, you know, 'feat. MC Beethoven'
