Does anyone know if it will be possible to upgrade from the Heron RC to the "real" version that comes out in a few days?

Definitely, you could do your upgrade from RC version to its Final Version.

Yes, or you could issue the command sudo upgrade-manager -d

If you have kept up with the updates; you already have it or will have it on the 24th.
