I have been trying for a month to get Ubuntu working on my brand new HP laptop, running on a separat partition from vista.

I have an HP Pavilion 9700. First main problem during install is the resolution will only go to 800x600, which presents a problem during some of the install process with the navigation window being larger than the dekstop. Eventually I moved the windows around to where I got Ubuntu to install in Live CD mode.

After Live CD mode installed, the system rebooted, began loading the drivers, but hangs when it gets to Bluetooth devices. This system does not have any bluetooth capability, so not sure why its hanging.

If I ever do get this installed, will I be able to get higher desktop resolution? My monitor runs at a max of 1400x900.

thanks beforehand for any help.
Todd

Thanks a lot, that first link itself looks like it will fix my problem- I will have to try it out then. Glad I am a techie or I would be totally lost, although a more stable system than Vista, its sure a headache to install.

Might be a headache, but it's worth it.
