I'm an absolute beginner in Ubuntu. I have just installed the new Ubuntu and still the old problem that I have with the previous version persist.

My sound card and wireless LAN adapter didn't seems to function properly. I'm using Lenovo 3000 Y410.

1.) My laptop is muted.
2.) My wireless adapter doesn't always work. Restarting usually resolve this...

Is there anyway I can manually resolve this?

If so please direct me to the related material. An easy one would be highly appreciated I have very limited knowledge in Linux OS.

Thank you very much in advance.

Edit: After some research on soundcard I found a similar thread about this problem on
https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/linux/+bug/210018

Sam Beran says that even he upgraded the sound kernal the problem still persist. Any other suggestions? Or Should I just wait for the new version coming in the next 6 months?
I am dying to switch to Ubuntu help me!

Not sure about your soundcard issue but I have experience of wireless network problems in Linux. My Thankpad T23 came with a Linksys PCMCIA wireless adaptor that wasn't supported in Linux. So I used the Windows driver for it usiing the ndiswrapper utility. It worked spasmodically which was driving me nuts. I was spending more time trying to connect to my wireless router than I was surfing. Then I found this site:

http://www.linuxemporium.co.uk/products/wireless/

and bought a linux natively supported PCMCIA card (about £10 but worth it to help stop me pulling my hair out). The new card works faultlessly everytime.

There's a sticky on this forum for linux supported wifi cards here:

Good luck!
