Your link points to an article about Saudi women :)

But I believe the article you want to link to may have already been posted.

It's here:

http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/technology/7358483.stm

It is not unusual for Ubuntu to appear on the BBC news website, I've seen it a few times. The key thing here is that it is not only linked from the news front page, but is under the "Other top stories" heading.

from the link:

He said the French police force was currently deploying 50,000 Ubuntu-powered machines, while Spanish education authorities were rolling out 500,000 desktops with the OS.

hmm, the chairs will be flying at redmond!

Ubuntu just got millions of dollars worth of free advertisement. Sometimes the news can be "good". :D

Mark Shuttleworth is a space tourist...? LOL.

But really, that's good news - awareness never hurt .

"Mr Shuttleworth said he believed there were about eight to nine million users of Ubuntu worldwide."

Now thats good news...

*SIGH*

"If people think of computing as going to a PC, sitting down and starting Word, then the traditional view, of using Windows and Office, will persist.

"But if people think of their daily experience as a sit down on the web, we know that people can have a very compelling experience on Linux.

"In fact, we know it is a better web experience because they can do it without spyware, without viruses."

I would have liked him to say that it's a competing OS. It does everything that Windows can do with the added advantge of almost zero virues (never sure about that) malware etc. It seems to come across as a "web OS"

Nice follow up article as well

It's a good article - I saw it on Digg earlier today. It's nice to see the BBC following Ubuntu at every release, even if there's a news drought in terms of Linux otherwise.

Basically, it's a flattering profile of Mark Shuttleworth, president of Canonical, a flattering overview of what Ubuntu is, and a plug for Hardy Heron.

This is the right time for Ubuntu and Linux in general. Let's grab this opportunity by the horns and go, GO, GO!!!
Get more marketing events going. Hand out CDs. Do anything you can, folks. This is our chance.

It talks about it's success and Shuttleworth going into space. Finally, enough attention for commercial notice!

Here is a link to see the BBC's Click reporter,Spencer Kelly, interviewing Mark Shuttleworth for the program, last year.It is only a 4 minute interview,as the Click program has lots of other tech-news to deliver as well, but it was better than nothing:

http://www.bbcworld.com/Pages/ProgrammeFeature.aspx?id=18&FeatureID=239

Click on the Real Player links.you have a choice of three download speeds.I remember watching this interview last year on tv,and thought Shuttleworth's comments interesting.

The BBC is moving to storing it's entire archive and production onto a Linux system.
