Who do you thin Microsoft buys their graphic cards from for the Xbox 360? Of course they are not going to concentrate on Linux as long as they are firmly in Microsofts back pocket.

What I do is this :
I don't even consider ATI when looking for a graphics card...I just get NVIDIA...they are better when it comes to Linux, and I use Linux, so why get ATI?
If you are saddled with an ATI card, try and sell it..

I dunno why opengl is being boosted up in Windows if Open GL is going to be crippled on Vista..what a waste of time...and money..

This a good thing. ATI sucking with OpenGl is part of the reason why the good Linux drivers never came- Linux programs all use Opengl!

It seems like every laptop I can find has some kind of ATI mobility type card in it. I cant get away from it. Of course, on the desktop, there is freedom of choice - NVidia all the way. But, I'm still caught wishing ATI would fix their linux drivers.

As a side note, the "official" ati driver only supports their really recent cards. What a crock.

totally agree. i cant find a good 15/14" laptop with a fast nvidia card. the only good ones on the market are the 17"ers with 68/78 go, but im thinking of getting something smaller.

that said, ati's new line of cards suck. im hoping that in a few months, the nvidia 7600go will be available on a lot of the models that have the x700 today, and i can finally get a really good lappy.

also, nvidias driver shares something like 90% of the code between the windows and linux version. i expect teh same to be true for ATI, and we should be seeing these fixes in the coming weeks in their linux driver.
