Just plain nosiness question

Just a question from pure curiosity. I've read some of the threads of people that are Beta testing the next release, and it just got me to thinking.

When the stable distro is released, does the Beta update to become stable, or do they have to reinstall?

It is upgraded with all the software, but a clean install ensures there are no left overs so to speak.
