I was cleaning my laptop's keyboard and suddenly this rather cool new boot loader screen popped up......

The 2 penguins were moving around the screen too :)

...now if only I could work out how I did it!!

Woa.

I hope it's not just a SuSE thing. I've never seen such a boot loader.

That's it?

I guess I should switch, then. Grub's boring in comparison.

No, it's still GRUB, just a more modern version.

You can do that to Ubuntu by installing a package called grub-gfxboot and wrestling with making it work :)

See this thread:

It is default in openSUSE, and if you ever lose GRUB (ie when you have to re-install another temperamental O/S, not mentioning any names!), it can be simply and easily restored from your boot CD/DVD.

With gfxboot, you can have snazzy Grub boot screens. See mine to give an idea...

I remember seeing that in 10.2 during a couple installs. I always loved seeing it. Reminds me of Pingus.

I run openSUSE 10.3 on my laptop. I remember the grub boot screen changing to the animated penguin during install and at around Christmas time. Its really cool.
