Hi all,

Just wondering - is it possible to make desktop wallpaper that shows computer IP address and computer name etc - so that it updates when the computer is turned on? - how can this be done.

Thanks for any responses :)

Not sure if I fully "get" your question but this may help

yeah you could set up conky which would show that and more if you wanted. and their is a really nice thread with great people that follow it.

You could set up a script (maybe upon logging in?) that takes a template-background and draws text on or otherwise modifies it, using image magick (works through cli), then stores the updated template to a file that nautilus is using for background.

Just a thought ...

That is right, Conky is what you need. You can do whatever you want it looks, and make your Desktop looks as geek as you want. But seriously, it is a very good system monitor. Make sure you use double buffer those, or it will annoy your eyes
