Hi, I just wanted to know if anybody knows of a good book on the history of modern computing. I would also really like it if it had an free software/open source point of view. I just want to learn more about the titans of computing like Alan Turing.

Thanks

Alan Hodges' biography (http://www.turing.org.uk/turing/) of Alan Turing should be kept in mind.

Here's three great books that I can recommend:

What the Dormouse Said: How the Sixties Counterculture Shaped the Personal Computer Industry (http://www.amazon.com/What-Dormouse-Said-Counterculture-Personal/dp/B000IOEU90/ref=pd_bbs_sr_1?ie=UTF8&s=books&qid=1208056021&sr=1-1)

The Dream Machine: J.C.R. Licklider and the Revolution That Made Computing Personal (http://www.amazon.com/Dream-Machine-Licklider-Revolution-Computing/dp/B00008MNVW/ref=pd_bbs_sr_1?ie=UTF8&s=books&qid=1208056016&sr=1-1)

Dark Hero of the Information Age: In Search of Norbert Wiener The Father of Cybernetics (http://www.amazon.com/Dark-Hero-Information-Age-Cybernetics/dp/0465013716/ref=ed_oe_p)
