View Full Version : Which baobab usage bar style?

After a bit of work, I have completed my modification to Baobab's usage bars.

Currently, there are only 3 colours used - red, yellow and green. This isn't very good as there isn't a big enough range to make things obvious.

I have made each bar rainbow coloured, but I wonder if this is the best thing to do. I had another idea where the whole bar is the same colour as before, but with a larger range of possible colours (infiinite in fact).

ImageShack as XR 1.9 is screwed.

I might be a bit on the dense side today, but what in particular do you want us to comment on?

Fair enough. I'd like to know whether people prefer the old 3 colour system, the rainbow one (which I've done), or the variable colour one (which I haven't done).

I see that your first post now contains two images. The first pic does not look particularly rainbowish to me. It's just some series of greyish vectors or arrows on a blackish background.

The second one contains bars in three different colors if you count 'white' as color. The pie has many more hues.

Edit: there are some red and blue dots as well as some blue arrows, a dashed line and some numbers. Definitely not a rainbow I've ever seen.

I meant the wee bars in the percentage column.

I'd prefer the bars being different colours, but only 1 colour each.

EDIT : wrong picture.

OK, now I get the picture.

I see no point to tbe barlets (?) being multi colored. Rather, I find it a bit distracting.

I think I could see some (weak) point to the barlets being the same color as their counterparts in the pie chart.

Otherwise, any coloring scheme which encodes the hierarchical level of the wee bars might do as well.

Och well, I'll need to find how to do a linear blend of colours now.
