Pointless threads, why do they keep happening?

Nonewmsgs, what is this thread about?

TeraDyne, your name reminds me of something, but I can't remember what had TeraDyne in it. It was a corporation of some story, webcomic or game.

I know there's a "Teradyne" company that makes automatic testing equipment, but that was only after a quick search on Yahoo just know. XD

I think know of the company you're talking about, but I can't remember the specifics.

That's the one I thought it might be. Oh, how I miss that game. I need to borrow my friend's copy so I can beat it again.

DataDyne isn't it, unfortunately. Im mistaking it for something else I think, I could of swore there was a corporation in Rifts, Werewolf or Mage (tabletop RPGs), but after a half hour searching through my collection and some web-searches on Google I found nothing. Oh well. Thanks for trying to find it though.

WTF is this thread about anyway? the numbers 777 in chmod looking to some guy as if they were playing in a casino? you don't get 777 as the output here, you give it as the input...

I feel kinda dumb looking at this thread.

If I understood it right, then that's quite rude, you know. Keep your finger down.

My friend and I once saw 'chmd 755' on a license plate once. The camera on his cell phone chose that moment to stop working.

oh hey guys

i was adjusting my my file system with sudo and the stupid files were now root only, and i was having issues then i was like wait chmod 7....7...7 and perhaps overly excited, but i get like that sometimes late at night.

yes 775 is so close that you can taste it, but then an EMP from nowhere destroys electronics. that's so you can't call for help.

Some threads are awesome
Some threads blow,
Some threads can help you
Increase what you know.

Some threads are informative
Some threads just suck,
Some threads like THIS one
are retarded as ...:-#

That's why I love Ubuntu Forums.

If what you're speaking of is changing all of your files to make them "world-readable", I would caution that in a few situations this will cause problems. Certain security-related files (private access keys and passcodes, for example) will be ignored by the system if they have the wrong permissions set -- the assumption being that if something private is available publicly, the system has been compromised.

Generally speaking, this is not a concern for the average user, I just would discourage the idea of recursively going through your home directory and changing all the permissions to "777". And I definitely would not recommend it outside of your home directory.
