View Full Version : Would it be worth it to upgrade my video card?

So I have a desktop computer with an NVidia 6200 video DDR2 video card. I have been thinking of upgrading it for a while because it doesn't get very good refresh rates on some games unless I lower the resolution to 1280x800 (my monitor is a 1680x1050). So I was wondering, would it be worth upgrading my video card to a nVidia by EVGA e-GeForce 8500GT 1GB DDR2 Graphics Card? Would there be any advantage to using that over what I have currently?

Thanks,
Smartboy :)

get atlest 8600+ if you get 8 series, unless you want to go back 1 or 2 series in performance. unless you want dx10 games, a high end 7 series card would lickly preform better at lower cost.

I don't play many directx 10 games, so the 7600 would probably work for me. I am looking to keep my costs lower, so this should be a good choice.

Yeah a 7600 would more than do the trick. I have a 7600GS 512 in my old comp, it can kick butt. Just know that the memory on these cards is a misunderstood selling feature; it is really only of any value when dealing with programs like Autocad or playing games at very high resolutions, ie., 1600x1200, 1920x1200, etc.

What exact games are you intending to play with it and/or other applications? A 7600 will struggle with COD4 and such relatively newer games at even 1280x1024, as most newer ones are using the GPU much more than the CPU. Just be clear on your intention with it so you can get the right purchase for yourself.

Nvidia Geforce 7600 is a good card , but stay away from the cheapest models, they are only half as fast, and you don't save much.
I think the cheap models are GS or GE, some have slower RAM, and some have slower cores and fewer shaders.
Best price/performance is usually plain/pure 7600
