I installed 8.04 beta of Ubuntu and installed the xubuntu-desktop package. When I log into my xfce session the desktop effects don't work, is there a way to turn those on for xubuntu as well?

Not trying to be mean, but if you need to use a light weight desktop like Xfce, why are you trying to enable desktop effects?

A little like adding sugar to Diet Coke...

I wasn't using Xubuntu b/c I needed a lightweight desktop, just wanted to play around with it and was wondering if this was a limitation. I can run Gnome fine w/the desktop effects, but just wanted to try different WM.

I remember I managed to get it working by installing compiz and emerald. There was a guide somewhere. I prefer not to use Compiz and just use the Xfce compositor though. I am not saying this will work but its worth a try. Install compiz and emerald and then I think you just have to do:

compiz --replace
Then to get the window borders you need:

emerald --replace
I am not sure how that will go though.
