I know, I'm a geek...but anybody know of a good Star Trek game for Linux? Preferably Ubuntu 7.1 compatible and not needing additional packages (don't have internet on Ubuntu computer)

i didn't know there was a single one let alone a "good" one!
starvoyager isn't based on ST Voyager, it simply shares the name by coincidence. its based on ST in general.
i don't like it, but i will give it time to see if it grows on me.

anyone remember the old-school DOS star trek computer games? I'm talking Star Trek 25th Anneversery, Judgement Rites, Final Unity... those games were great, i wish they'd bring back that style of game.

I tried it. It seems a bit awkward to play, but interesting.

Star Trek: Elite Force I&II work in WINE, AFAIK. And they are incredibly fun.

They're awesome shooters and I am not even a star trek fan.

I used to have Elite Force I, when it first came out. I'm looking at getting it again soon. I really like FPS games and I really like Star Trek Voyager. It was a natural fit for me.
I'm glad to hear that it'll work in Ubuntu (with Wine). I was going to boot over to Vista just to play games.

I have to keep an XP virtual machine for school (working on my Network Tech degree) so I just run my non 3-d accelerated games such as Baldur's Gate in it, otherwise everything is run in Ubuntu and WINE.

I don't game that much on PC, I play my Xbox 360 mostly, but hopefully they're kinda like the Star Wars FPS games. :)

They ran the Quake 3 (and arena) engine, same as the better Star Wars games. I still have them both, although annoyingly I just noticed one of the discs is cracked right when I was gearing up to try them under Wine... Always the way.
I remember a friend of mine telling me once he'd managed to get the Starfleet Command series ( 1 and 2, I believe, not sure about 3) running under wine on debian of some sort, they were good games. But in general wine (or VM) seems like it's going to be your best bet.
AFAIK, there haven't actually been that many good Star Trek games at all... I still remember the old Starfleet Academy Win95 game with a fond memory... That was 5 CDs in size, though, and I can't find it for sale.

VegaTrek, it is a mod for Vega Strike. It isn't exactly story driven, but there are missions and things. It is still in development, but it is playable. It is a tad hard to compile, but I've been asked by one of the original makers to re-write the Linux Compilation guide.
Also, SuperStarTrek is a terminal based game, it is good.
