My 15 month old Dell Laptop died on tuesday and I need a replacement fast. Right now I considering a couple of option my main concerns are cpu speed, the possibility for a 4 Gig of ram and price. I already have 2 Gig of memory, a 100 Gig 7200rpm HD and an Intel abg Wifi card for an instant upgrade. I don't play game and was happy with Intel graphic before. But do a lot of calculation so CPU and ram are important.

Here are the options I'm considering. The fact that they come with Ubuntu pre-installed is just a fluke, they were the cheapest around.

Anyone has experience, suggestions or comments with these models? I'm also open to other brand, as long as it plays nice with Linux. I'm also looking for something that will last mefor a while, I'm not used to change my computer once a years

I have2 laptops one is a 17inch Desktop Replacement for downstairs. The 17inch is a Dell Insipron 9400 Core 2 Duo 1.6, can't remember exact CPU, 1 gig ram ATI X1400 Graphics 120 gig hard disc, Intel 3945 abg wifi. My favourite laptop is the 15inch Fujitisu Amilo Core 2 Duo 1.5, 2 gig ram 160 gig hard disc, Intel x3100 graphics Intel 3945 abg wifi.

I can recommend both of these laptops highly no problems with them and Ubuntu. The Fujitsu Amilo is nice and light for everyday it gets more use than the 17inch as I also have a Quad Core Desktop at home too.

Yes I would make the same choices again:) You should be fine with the Dell Inspiron mine were in a similar price range to yours.
