Wow.

I never knew the stars were so diverse in size. (I knew the sun was small, but not that small)

I once saw a video on the relative distances. The solar system was the size of an indoor soccar field, and the nearest star was (on this scale) a drive of quite some distance.

Actually Neptune and Uranus are relatively the same size thus why Uranus is not listed.

Neptune is slightly bigger, but not enough to show in the video.

Right, the two are only a few thousand meters off and not enough for a comparison like this.

there are some really good podcasts and youtube videos about astronomy i've seen recently. at youtube there's something called 'outer planets' and 'inner planets'. and there's a great podcast called 'Astronomy Cast'. they ask people to get the word out, so i might as well mention it for them.

they did a series of casts about the solar system starting here -

if you listen while at the computer you can lookup the things they talk about 8) the podcast about saturn is good if anyone wants to check it out (probably not, i know lol) -

Thanks a lot for the link, that sounds really interesting! I'm definitely going to give it a listen! (Plus I love that they seem to be doing transcripts of all of their episodes!)

in the podcast i listen to one of the presenters said when some people see Saturn for the first time through a telescope, thay say 'is this a prank? it's just a picture stuck at the end of the telescope!,' because it's so unreal looking!!

Bah. We're the ones looking at the universe. Our gaze fills almost the whole damned thing.
