Compiling the kernel

Hello everyone,

Just a few quick questions.

Would Ubuntu be a good enough distro to play with the kernel (practice compiling etc)?

I want to learn and get a good grasp on compiling a kernel. So I found a lot of sources on the net on how to do that but a lot of sources don't say what distro they recommend to play with the kernel.

I was looking at "Linux from scratch" but is there anything other than LFS?

Ubuntu should be fine.

Yes, you could use Ubuntu.

There are guides available such as the Master Kernel Thread (http://ubuntuforums.org/showthread.php?t=311158). These will often show you how to compile the debian way, but there is no reason why you shouldn't do things manually for practice.

The reason why the sources you read didn't recommend a distro is because it doesn't really matter. Some other distros would be just as good.
