I am so sick of this process. I remember paying money for Windows 98 and Window2000 for my laptops. Why am I constantly forced to give them money? Is there anyway to get a refund from Microsoft? I know this was a very heated issue in the late 90s.

Thanks again

Yes. Someone here will definitely explain the process to you, I would myself but I've never actually tried to get a refund so you'd be better of hering from someone who did:D

I can't believe things haven't changed. It is still no refund for OEM. However, this only works for Retail. Oh, I would never purposely give MS any money. The issue is most VISTA purchases were all OEM for laptops. If the manufactures decline, I can't get anything. I had to buy a non-dell laptop. I am so tired of them. I can't believe they still can get away with a murder after 10 years later.

Yes, you can from Dell. Dell's product manual clearly states that if one refuses the EULA to only send back the CD's and wipe the drive.

Yea, but mine is Toshiba. Are you saying, DELL will refund for Toshiba laptop? That doesn't sound logical.

You need to contact Toshiba then. Dell has given refunds to it's customers. Not all OEMs do. If you already accepted the EULA, then I would forget about it.

I got 60 bucks off a class action lawsuit in Iowa. Free money!

I asked:

Hello. I just ordered an Inspiron 531 which comes
with Windows Vista.

I will not be using Windows or any other of the pre-installed software
on that system. I will be using Ubuntu Linux, and therefore will be
erasing the preinstalled OS.

Once I receive my system, may I send back the Windows installation
discs as well as the Windows license sticker and get a refund for it?

Thanks

And they said:
Dear Andrew Zajac,

Thank you for contacting Dell Customer Care.

Please be advised that the pre-installed Windows Vista Basic OEM
version comes free with Dell system purchase. There will be no credit value
for returning the OS. Please keep the Windows Vista Basic OS.

So I asked:

Thanks for your answer.

I understand that you are providing the OS for free.

If I don't agree with the license, and remove the software from my
computer without booting into it even once, am I in violation of any
agreement if I give the software along with the license key to someone else
for them to install on their computer?

And they said:

Dear Andrew Zajac,

Thank you for contacting Dell Customer Care.

I am not sure that the license will work on another system. As our

They say it is free, but in england you can buy the Dell Inspiron 1525 laptop pre-installed with Ubuntu for £298.99. The same spec laptop with Vista pre-installed costs £329.00. So unless im completely wrong, then Vista costs about £30.
