I read "begining C++ game programing" and found it quite nice, then I moved on to taking apart examples from the GTK-tutorial folder(not sure where I found it actualy, but it's about a year out of date, still a fantastic guide though... I would upload the tar here if you want)

Ooh, quick tip. while learning use binfmtc
sudo apt-get install binfmtcand the shebang:
*/to save compiling before running, very handy.
/*BINFMTC: `pkg-config --cflags --libs gtk+-2.0`
*/when using gtk.

It depends on what you're looking for..since you have already read a book on C++..i am thinking that you have a decent knowledge to the language and able to write useful programs...check this site..it might be useful http://www.computer-books.us/cpp.php maybe time to start GUI programming..also you might want to check the programming FAQ
For GUI there is this QT book
good luck(^_^)
