Sad news indeed. He'll be missed. Rendezvous with Rama is still one of my favorite Sci-Fi books.

Very sad indeed. I read most of his books and really enjoyed the Rama series with Gentry Lee (?).

He will be missed as a pioneer in science/engineering and as a sci-fi writer.

Edit: He was also an Amiga user at one stage :)

A great man in the world of SciFi...
They're dropping like flies it seems. First Gygax, now Clarke? We're losing the great creators of geekdom!

what immediately comes to mind was him going off on the current millenium starting in 2001, not 2000.

He was the last of the big 3 writers from early SF. (The other two being Isaac Asimov and Robert Heinlein.)

The last of the great three. Goodbye.

I remembered the Asian tsunami in 2004, and reading this a day later:

Thanks for mentioning this. I didn't know ACC was working on a new novel. I will definitely have to buy it when it comes out! IMO ACC was the best sci-fi writer of all time. He will be missed.

My favourite of his novels was Glide Path. It was semi-autobiographical; an account of his work on a radar talk-down system for landing aircraft during WW2.
