I've hung around http://www.justlinux.com since I started using linux, but it seems to not be as active as I would like.

Anyone else got any other places they like to hang out?

Good forum to ask questions that you have already looked for answers for, but not one I would consider very newbie friendly. There are some very knowledgeable and very helpful folks there though. It's just not a good place to post a "So what is this linux thing..." questions. But it's where I go if I need a question answered.

The only thing I've found general Linux forums good for are "which distro" threads. Once you settle on a distro, though, you're likely to get the most help from a specific Linux forum.

http://distrowatch.org is a good place to find all the different linux versions and updates. You'd be amaze at how many linux distro's there are out there.

Yeah, actually, you don't need to go to a general forum. If you're just looking for which distro to pick, I'd recommend either the Linux Distribution Chooser Quiz (http://www.zegeniestudios.net/ldc/) or the DistroWatch top ten (http://distrowatch.com/dwres.php?resource=major).

for me the obvious choices are linuxquestions.org, linuxforums.org, and then even though it's distro specific, the Gentoo forums. there are some very knowledgeable people in there who can help you very well with non-Gentoo issues as well if you make yourself clear enough.
