In order to introduce people to the world of Ubuntu, I thought I should show them what programs they would expect, so they could try these programs out before they fully switch from Windows to Linux...

So which Ubuntu programs are available for Windows XP other then Firefox, Openoffice, Abiword, Audcity and Thunderbird?

The LiveCD offers a great introduction to F/OSS for Windows users.

If you put the Live CD in your drive under Windows, it pops up a browser based on the OpenCD, allowing the Windows user the opportunity to install several application available to both Ubuntu and Windows, such as the GIMP, Gaim, OOo, Firefox, Thunderbird, Inkscape (I think), etc.

EDIT:

whoops. looks like the post above me beat me to it :-P

EDIT2:

i just thought of MPlayer, but it's got no GUI on Windows :-( it's everybit as good as the Linux version, though. only thing is you'll need to either use "cmd" to run it or drag 'n drop your video onto the program
