hello all,
i've thrown some parts together in hopes of scraping up some cash.

How much would you think it's worth, i was hoping to get about 50-100 for it.

Specs:
500MB Ram
pantium 4 - 2.53 ghz
20 gb HDD
2 fans
cd/dvd drive

thanks for your input :)

EDIT: i forgot to mention thats it is missing the front panel.

It's amazing how quickly system value decreases. I built mine two years ago and put about 1500 into it at the time, now I would expect less than 200 for it, even brand new.

Pentium 4 630@3.0ghz
2GB DDR2
660GB total HDD capacity (2x250, 1x160)
nVidia7800GTX
Audigy 2 ZS

Your range is about right, though. It's just a depressing thought that such an asset depreciates so quickly.

However, thanks to Linux and the Ubuntu's in particular, we can rest easy knowing at a system will function at a good speed for many years to come. I have absolutely no reason to upgrade my system, running Kubuntu 7.10. Even KDE4, the newest of the new runs smoothly on my system. As well as the Aero-defying Compiz. Just amazing, really.

nah. i just bought ram for may com (4gb x 1 - DDR2) and it was about 200, so your systems got to worth a lot more than that, plus you've got a fair graphics card :)

Thing is, the card is nearly useless without a decent processor. I learned that the hard way. I started with a Pentium D 820, but my Motherboard only supported the use of one core (which I found out much later than I would have liked to). So it was actually an 'upgrade' to the 3ghz P4.

How the heck did you pay 200 for 4gb of ram? You got ripped, dude. http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16820220267 103.99

Or if you're looking for performance, http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16820134596 139.99

Regardless, two 1gig sticks of slow, old ddr2 is only going to be worth 15 a piece. I could disassemble the system and possibly get a few more for it that way, but as I said I have no need to upgrade. Linux wins, yo.

well it wasn't that recent, maybe a couple months ago

Ah, well the prices have dropped sharply recently. DDR3 really brought them down, even though DDR3 is still half a million dollars per megabyte.

It just further illustrates my point, though. The depreciation in value is absurd. If anything unnecessary depreciated in this way, we would all stay far, far away from it. Cars are about the only thing I can think of that even compare.
