Is there something special you can do with it? Assuming you really do have it.

"Works with Windows Vista" certified"
I had that router but switched for a 2WIRE router as it has better range and signal strength

Too bad it isn't a N router.

A reviewer on newegg, where I first found it, said it wasn't very reliable.

Did you find an advantages to using this Open Source Router?

My router is a WGR614v8

That one is a WGR614L.

I don't know if mine is the same internally.

Mine is very reliable, as far as I can tell.

I use a Netgear switch (recently using) as well.

I like how they work (no problems) and would buy them again.

I don't know if they are open source, but that doesn't matter to me.

Open Source doesn't matter to me either. I was just hoping there was some new cool trick that came with it, hopefully in the realm of tweaking for better speed or signal strength.

My netgear was lacking speed, and my older brother the computer whiz fixed something. I can download at the speeds I should now (3.0mb/s). I go as low as 100 /s and as high as 4-500 /s under normal use.

The firmware is open source not the router... You can flash any capable router with open source firmware .

I don't think I have the Lifehacker (http://lifehacker.com/) links anymore, but they did some articles about using dd-wrt and tomato to up the signal strength, etc on a router. If you go to MyOpenRouter (http://www.myopenrouter.com/) you can get either of these for the Netgear router. So there are some tricks you can do.
