I need a few megabytes to start my own home page with a forum. Where to look for this first?

There are loads of webhosts out there... I suspect that you will be inundated with suggestions.

If you are looking for free (as in no cost) hosting, I am currently using:
http://www.jwnmedia.com/

Another good basic site (I gave this one up because it doesn't support Dokeos):
www.websitesnetwork.com

For forums, try PunBB - it is free (GNU), and works with either host:
http://punbb.org/

Paid hosting offers lots more options...

The trouble with most of these free hosting sites is that if you move anywhere else you then have a different address. The advantage of a paid for sight is that the domain address is your own, you can move it if you want. I don't see a lot of point in changing hosts, all my domains are on one host except for the latest which is a backup domain for one of the others and is on another host. I have been with the original host for seven years. The only crashes have been caused by me and their service restoring the site has been very prompt.

Not strictly true.

Certainly, JWN allows personal domains to be hosted for free (although you do have to pay for one independently). I think websitenetworks does too.

In fact, you can use a free redirect service if you want to maintain an independent url that you can move with you:
http://www.uni.cc/

As an example - one of my own:
http://www.epconsult.uni.cc - redirects to: http://www.ugm6hr.jwnmedia.com

As for PunBB - it is good. I just experimented a little with an installation, but never took it any further than that. It is easy to do though.

I'd better start with a blog at wordpress. As far as I am informed it will be completely free of charge. I lead a project called "Ubuland" that aims to create a free web hosting. But "Ubuland" lacks developers and it seems it won't be completed in near future. That is why I will start my place in the web on a free blog system, that is offered by wordpress. Anything in mind?
