Hay, everyone Plz vote to a nice idea to make a site for spreading ubunttu (speadubuntu.com, spreadubuntu.org, like). The original idea came form the successful "spreadfirefox" site. Vote for it now on Ubuntu Brain storm and hopes canonical make it soon. More votes make idea is popular and then canonical implemented popular ideas.

Vote for it now on Ubuntu Brain storm and hopes canonical make it soon.

Is there a good argument as to why Canonical should make it, instead of volunteers from the community? There are many similar sites produced by the community; why don't people step up and produce it themselves, getting support from Canonical if/when needed?

If I recall correctly, spreadubuntu.com actually existed for a while. It was started by a volunteer, and taken over by the all-volunteer marketing team (https://wiki.ubuntu.com/MarketingTeam). I'm not sure about the reason of its demise (it redirects to ubuntu.com now), but it's probably lack of sustained contributions.

People should really get actively involved in things like this instead of passively "voting" for them to happen. A million votes won't make it happen unless someone steps up to the job.

This will help to fix the Bug #1 (https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+bug/1).

I don't trust this kind of thing, people shouldn't convert to Ubuntu unless they know what they're doing.

But, bruce89, what would we do without the "I give up! I'm going back to Windows" or "Why do I have to be a programmer to get Ubuntu to work?" threads that keep appearing in the Ubuntu Testimonials and Experiences subforum?

I created a site with this idea a while ago but I don't really have time to do anything with it now. If people would like to contribute to it, that would be cool, or even if someone is interested in taking it over.
http://www.spreadubuntu.co.uk/

I spent quite some time on the Resources section, putting together promotional material collected from various places on the net.

Its only .co.uk because that's the only good domain that was available. I don't know who has the .com but as mentioned above it currently forwards to the Ubuntu main site.

The SpreadFirefox site is the reason I DIDNT use firefox for a very long time.

Its software, people, not a religion.

If people want to use Ubuntu, they can. I don't prefer that they do or don't: its their choice.

Now I just don't use firefox because its alot worse than opera.

I guess the site is now up and running at http://spreadubuntu.neomenlo.org/
But who created the site? When I click contact, it links to the Canonical site

UPDATE: Ups, just found the Launchpad site - sorry for the noise

Would you support directing the Canonical owned "spreadubuntu.com" domain to the http://spreadubuntu.neomenlo.org/ site?
