Hey all!

I have a Dell Inspiron 6000 that is a few years old.

I have swapped O/Ses for a long time, but at the moment I was running XP. Then XP crashed, so I figured that it was time to move back to Linux.
I popped in a live CD, copied all my files to a external hard disk.
Then I rebooted, and the BIOS gave me an error, saying one of my devices was not responding, press ESC continue or power off and remove the device.
After a bit of troubleshooting I figured out that it was my CD drive, so I got on Ebay and got one for 30 bucks.
I replaced the drive, and now when a try boot from CD there is just a flashing courser on the top left of my screen.

I've tried different CDs that boot with no problem in my Desktop.
I've googled this, but all I can get is that it is probably the Mobo, and I don't want to accept that!

Please Help!!
Thanks!

Can you try and boot off a USB stick or if you have a 3.5" floppy try installing GRUB see - www.faqs.org/docs/Linux-mini/Multiboot-with-GRUB.html.

It your HD a goer - can you boot off it or are you dead in the water?

I think I got a bad drive. :(

I sent it back Friday, so I should get a new one soon.
I'll let you know if that fixes it.
