Expanding the Eee PC Family
ASUS has made several innovative improvements with the next generation of the Eee PC – dubbed the Eee PC 900. These new technologies will bring about a brand new concept for Internet access with 1G of memory, larger storage of up to 12GB, and wider 8.9-inch screens. These new Eee PCs will cost 399 Euro each, and will be available in summer this year – to select countries on the first wave of launch. All of these new models will be Windows ready, and will provide users with a chance to enjoy a brand new PC experience while on the go.

I don't care if they're "Windows ready" or not, as long as they still come with Xandros preinstalled.

I don't think that the OS will be changed, (although the article is not explicit about this).

I'm just glad about the screen size, as that was stopping me from buying one.

Have they released any new specs on the resolutions supported w/ this larger screen? I've looked around, but can't seem to locate any.

The Eee PC 900 (the name it'll possibly have) will feature a 9-inches display; a 2-inches bump from the existing 7-inches version. It will also feature a higher resolution; 1,024 x 600 pixels as compared to the 800 x 480 pixels of the existing 7-inches version. Asus claims the increased display size will not affect battery life (rated at around 2.5 to 3 hours; same as in the existing model).

The screen size of the new Eee will be 8.9 inches rather than seven inches, and its resolution will be 1,024 x 600 pixels rather than 800 x 480 pixels. Its RAM will be increased from 512MB to 1GB, and its solid-state storage from the current 4GB maximum to between 8GB and 12GB. To accommodate the larger screen size, the speakers have been moved from their current position straddling the screen to the underside of the unit.

I dont see the point anymore.You can get a low end "real" laptop
with a much bigger screen for the same price.

I dont see the point anymore.You can get a low end "real" laptop
with a much bigger screen for the same price. That is the point, though--it's for people who don't want a "real" laptop. They want an ultra-mobile PC. If you read the reviews of the Eee PC, you'll quickly see the appeal of the product. People love that it's not some heavy bulky thing they have to lug around. They don't mind taking it with them wherever they go. Many people are happy that it fits in their purses. They like the quick boot-time. They like the novelty of it.

I don't know where you live, but £230 for a laptop, low end or not, is not expensive; not when the cheapest laptop Dell are currently selling is £329.
(Sure I can find one a bit cheaper, but none the less.)

I think he was referring to the new 399 euro model (~305 GBP according to currency site), which is pretty darn close to "real" laptops.

Not that you'd be able to get that small of a laptop for so cheap from many other brands.
