New users trying to install software the "Windows" way (i.e. go to the website of software, try to look for a download link) are becoming more and more of an endemic. I don't know if there is a miscommunication or what, but it seems to be a source of major frustration and FUD against Linux by uninformed people who don't know what a package manager is. What do you think can be done about this?

I'd recommend doing a step-by-step visual tutorial on the site, showing how users install packages in Synaptic, and also the "Add/Remove Programs" frontend, and maybe even through the CLI.

Please recommend gnome-app-install instead of synaptic to new users...
Synaptic is pretty cryptic to any people.
