At my high school, we have a computer class, were we learn how to use the <sarcasm>awesome</sarcasm> windows programs, its called windows app's. I wasn't going to take it, but it turns out its mandatory :(.

anyway, were making a websites, and animations on them are mandatory, (thats just sooo wrong) so if anyones got some not-so-crappy-and-annoying-me-to-death animations that would be great.

Link our web page requirements:

Welcome Statement using animated letters.I feel so sorry for you. I had to do something similar, though we weren't forced to use Windows.

A quick Google search reveals http://www.gifanimations.com/ which seems to have some half-decent animations. Tip: Find the one that animates the least. ;)

Wait, so the class is on how *not* to make a website. Um...OK...I guess.... They *do* preface it with "this is how you should never ever make a website. If you ever do, someone will hunt you down and chop your fingers off before gouging out their own eyeballs with a spoon." ...right?

It's these so called computer classes in schools that makes so many people computer dumb, and make the world have so many horible websites.
But at least it looks like your teacher knows a little about computers, since at the bottom it mentions FTP, and well, my computer teacher told us that HTML is too hard to learn and that all websites are made with Frontpage...

I had to do something similar a few times in high school, but I stood on principle and didn't degrade my pages, but we didn't have set guidelines for the page, just suggestions. I also used notepad and HTML instead of frontpage :P

But yeah, that list does make me cringe a bit... That's basically taking everything I've learned not to do and telling you to do it. I do feel sorry for you.

yeh. pretty much, when he first gave us the list i thaught it was a joke, boy was i sadly mistaken

they use an offsite server, i know because i asked him were the server was and he had no idea what the hell i was talking about :lolflag:

the lectures are hilariously cringe-tastic, for some reason he thinks that 7 is the biggest font possible

"# Your favorite Bible Verse (The verse “Jesus wept” may not be used).
# What the verse means to you in paragraph form."

This would so not fly at my school.

As for animations, I suppose you're best off just making your own little animation.

I had to look up "aousoum" but the only hit lead me back to this thread. Then I sounded it out and realized that you were just being silly with the word awesome. Way to throw me for a loop.

Make your own in gimp! All you have to do is make different layers and then export it as a gif. A wizzard will come up where you can put in how long to wait on each frame. etc.

My favorite verse from the Bible? OK....

The conversion characters d, i, o, u, and x may be preceded by h to indicate that a pointer to short rather than int appears in the argument list, or by l (letter ell) to indicate that a pointer to long appears in the argument list. Similarly, the conversion characters e, f, g may be preceded by l to indicate that a pointer to double rather than float is in the argument list.
This is my favorite quote from the Machine Gods Brian W. Kernighan and Dennis M. Ritchie because I always have trouble remembering print format strings. It is preceded in Chapter 7, page 158, by a table of print format specifiers, such that even a lowly newbie to C, like me, can understand and know the inner workings of the Heavenly language.

For anyone not getting it, The C Programming Language is often referred to as "The Bible" by C programmers, and K&R are 2 of the Machine Gods. I can't remember the full Machine Pantheon, but I think Donald Knuth and Ada Lovelace are in there.

unless you want spageti code dont use frountpage, Dreamwever is better, but nothing beets hand coding ;)

format the page using CSS, HTML for content only. tags like <font> and <center> are no longer w3c standerd, DONT USE THEM. also DO NOT use tables for layout, thats what CSS is for

If you are coding for IE6 you are fased with one of the least standers compliant browser in existence. a page that works in IE6 is unlickly to work corectily in any other browser. the only real way around this is using JavaScript/PHP to switch between 2 style sheets.

animations should never be a key feature on a web page becouse they take time to download. quite allot of people still use dial up ;)

your class seems to be teaching out of date standers

That list is honestly hilarious. I like how pages arent given proper names like biog.html, they are pg1 and pge 2 :)

God help a 56k user when they visit pg2.hml:

Page 2 (pg2.html)

* Welcome Statement (i.e. My Family).
* Graphical background.
* Minimum 3 pictures.
* Information and/or story line about pictures.
* Page must flow not jumping all over.
* Animated image on page.
* Navigation menu.
* Create table.
* Place music on page (Optional on this page).

After seeing bits of the requirements, I think the teacher wants to show the class "this can be done with HTML", not "this is the standard you should follow when creating a website of your own".

OP: You might suggest that your teacher add a caveat about all the images on the page, in that the students should physically resize them before embedding them into the page. Points will be taken off if the images is just resized with code.

i.e. - don't shove a 1000x1000 image into a 100x100 coded space. It doesn't decrease page size whatsoever.

No need for PHP/JS. Just use conditional comments:

<!--[if ie> <link href="iesucks.css" rel="stylesheet" type="text/css" /> <![endif]-->

You used a table-based layout? I would take that as proof that software did it because all the WYSIWYGs suck like that. Link?

we should all send him emails like this:

(Don't worry, I haven't sent it, but I want to, lol.)

Also, point out to him that his own web page is not valid.

why does "Use of tables." appear over and over again?

PLEASE tell me that you are not using tables to lay out the page!!

(if you are, your teacher can go to ****.)

Why tables for layout is stupid:
problems defined, solutions offered
