Hello
I'm am having real problems with Ubuntu
Two weeks ago I was banned from Ubuntu forums as a spammer, this was up setting to me because I have a network of 4 computers all with Ubuntu 7.10 on.
Yesterday this was cleared up and the mis understanding righted. I can now access Ubuntu forums again.
I have written a two page guide on dual booting this is available on Ubuntu and Kubuntu forums.
I have a whole page about Linux which I have used since 1999 on my web site but I am banned by Ubuntu to give a link.
Today I have been on the Ubuntu Support IRC and after three hours the BOT banned me.
I do not understand when I am trying to help newbies and Ubuntu users gain support from their IRC support channel why I should be banned.
I have no intention of offending people, yet yesterday I was insulted by someone. People also swear on the IRC which I am not happy with, and post a message asking not to swear on the channel
Ubuntu is realy starting to bug me, I was a Mandriva user for three years and only changed to Kubuntu and Ubuntu with Gutsy 7.10 in Oct 2007
I have over 40 posts on Kubuntu, I use their channel never been banned for anything and enjoy using the forum and IRC.
I am upset by Ubuntu
I welcome your posts to this forum and would hopefully respond to any advice offered.

I have posted alot and have even been a little provocative sometimes and haven't come close to being banned yet. What kind of help are you asking for?

Moved to the community cafe as this is not a support thread.
In case Antkin don't already knows, ubuntuforums.org staff has no link with the ubuntu IRC channels administration.

Don't worry, it is probably a misunderstanding. I think you have been blacklisted somehow, and the side effects continue (i.e. being banned from the IRC). You should write these down to one of the Forum Moderators informing him/her about your good intention and the incident on the IRC.
And start over to help other people with your 3 years experience. We need more people like you.
Take care yourself.

I was in the IRC and was one of the two people to call the ops that eventually got him kicked 3 times, before someone finally laid down the kick ban.
Antkin would greet virtually everyone who came in the room and ask if they needed help, then, no matter what the person said, Antkin would immediately tell them to google it or post a message here on the forums.
At least two people said "ok" and left.
There was then about 30 minutes of warnings and attempts to explain to Antkin proper behaviour.
It's all in the #ubuntu logs if you care to see for yourself.

Would you be so kind and enlighten me about the location of this log please.
Disputes are allways interesting, its like reality-tv but on the forums :D

Really?! What is the point in doing such a thing? I would expect antkin to explain this...

Here are the logs: http://irclogs.ubuntu.com/
And they're much more useful than just people watching. ;)
When you're googling for answers, try looking specifically at the logs... for example:
change + "console fonts" site:irclogs.ubuntu.com

<Mr.Brown> Welcome Do you have a question or problem today?
This is as if he is using a chatbot to answer whoever visits the room.
I admit that it starts getting on people's nerves after a while. And the final section was plain hilarious. :D
And from what I can see, you people have been really as polite and patient as possible with him.

I have been swore at, insulted asked and if I am a bot on Ubuntu Support forum in just 3 days of using Chatzilla on IRC.
I have been cautioned, warned and and banned all in one morning. My accuser will not meet me privately on IRC to reach a conclusion.
I think Ubuntu is heavy handed. I don't have these problems with Kubuntu.
I have been using computers since 1975 and Linux since 1999. I spent 3 years with Mandriva, found the forum helpful and never got banned for anything.
I have Ubuntu on 4 Dell computers and welcome the support I get from the forum.
I would like to put the record straight, I asked visitors to IRC today if they had posted their question on the forum, if no then this is the fist step. I then ask them to come back to IRC
In simple terms some Newbies need to be guided by the hand. I understand that because in 1999 Linux was very strange to a Windows user.

The exact reason I stay away from helping on the #ubuntu irc channel, too much politics and a few people who think they know everything. So when somebody new comes on to help they try to bully the person. :(

Moved to Forum Feedback and Help (sorry frodon ;))
May I stress out that the proper place to discuss about IRC ops actions is #ubuntu-ops ?
I'm closing here, as there is nothing much we can do and for Staff review.

Yes, that is fathomable, but since you are the actor of the incident, it is normal that you think you have been abused and crucified. I have also read the chat logs and have observed that people there have really tried their best to criticize your approach, which in my opinion, was pretty unnerving.
Believe me, asking the same question over and over is really picking on other people's nerves and is hard to put up with. There is no need to ask everyone if they need help or not. If anyone visits the chat room and has a problem, s/he will ask it soon without your intervention. I am sure you have good intentions (to help other people) in acting so, but this is not the correct way.
I have seen IRC talk much more vulgar than this; they have really been polite at warning you against you until lately. So, please do not think this as an insult to your personality, retrospect your attitude with self -criticizm and try to follow a different approach next time.
Take Care.

You should remember that the entire story is not always viewable from a single channel. The ops channel logs are available from the same location and may shed light on the final ban etc. Private messages however are obviously impossible to log, so some discussion may be missing.
You are all welcome to join #ubuntu-ops, or PM any operator to discuss the way the channel is managed. I go by 'PriceChild' on irc too if you would like to contact me.
Finally, there is a documented appeals process: https://wiki.ubuntu.com/IrcTeam/AppealProcess
