Hi, I'm a little out of the loop when it comes to the latest PC components.

Can anyone reccomend a good motherboard, processor and gfx for under 300quid? Cheers.

300 quid is about 600 USD, right?

If you don't do gaming, you might consider the Q6600. It might be more useful for everyday multitasking and graphic work.

Your recommendations look good Yes, but remember that the prices are considerably more here in the UK than in the states.

I don't know much about hardware, but I'm sure someone who knows more can find good components for you from sights like ebuyer.com, scan.co.uk, and overclockers.co.uk

Pre-installed with Ubuntu, and you can have Dual Boot options too.

a core 2 duo should be perfectly adiquate for most work. the Q6600 would be OTT unless you are doing 3d rendering, verry few apps can actualy use 4 cores

The GA-P35-DS3L is a great board much better than the ASRock if you plan on overclocking. Having said that it really depends on your needs. If Ubuntu or any other Linux distro is what you'll be gaming in there is no need for the 8800 GT that's a lot of overkill for any game that will run in Linux under Wine or natively. An HD 3850 would serve you just fine. Nor do you need a Quad, an E4500 or even a E1260 (both of which will clock to 3.0GHz on stock voltage and air) with a couple or 4 GB's of decent DDR2800 will be more than sufficient.
