System76, is a company that sell pre built linux notebooks, desktops, and servers. Their main and only forum, is on this site here: http://ubuntuforums.org/forumdisplay.php?f=158

Plenty of people are buying computers from system76 and having mediocre problems with their computers. The people of system76 are doing their best to meet the demand, but with only two people working the forums, thats an impossibility. What they need, is people from the community to go there and help!

Most of the questions are so easy, that even i could answer them, but i am rarely on their, instead they need YOU to go!

Q. My computer's built in web cam wont work, and i get some funky reading when i open up <insert web cam program here> in the terminal.

A. Try using the hardware keys to enable it.

A2. Hey, that worked!

The same type of thing occurs with microphones being accidentally muted, and lots of other little things like that, but the problem is there are very few people to help, please! go help!

Sorry I don't have a System76 laptop, but if you want me to send one I'd be more than happy to answer other peoples questions. :)

well... the questions really don't have much to do with the computers, there really just about config issues. The computers are already setup for Ubuntu, so ya, just config type stuff! :)

As I see, you should direct problems that are overwhelming to the absolute beginners thread.

It would be a good idea to post as a sticky (if you haven't already) about it. Most of us here that help try to catch new stuff in there.

Ah o.k., well perhaps it would be good for the users and the people would help them if you can post a sticky giving the details of the specs for each product you produce, maybe including links to any close source drivers. One of the hardiest things when trying to help someone with a problem is not knowing what hardware they are running.

e.g. "I can't get Compiz running"
Would usually be folllowed by asking which graphics card they are using/drivers etc.

Well a quick browse through the System76 forums, there's not much a non-System76 user/employee can do different from the average Ubuntuforum help.

System 76 admit (http://ubuntuforums.org/showthread.php?t=701065) themselves that hardware specs can change from moment to moment.
So trying to help with some universial problems, such as suspend which can depend on every bit of hardware in the machine, becomes a big problem.
After seeing a problem with a user on low disc space (http://ubuntuforums.org/showthread.php?t=711989). I have to wonder exactly how much work System76 put into making sure that Ubuntu works on each machine. Sending out a pre-configured Gutsy machine with only a 6G root partition is in-excusable.
So while I applaud System76's aim, if they can't make sure that everytime the underlying hardware changes that they check to make sure something as simple as the microphone still works, well perhaps they need to employ a bit more man power in creating their pre-configured OS images.

i don't think they did that, i think he did that after he got his computer.
