i got this email from the tech guy at work that is so computer oriented all he knows how to do is install avg and stuff, doesnt even know what a partition is <.< but anyway he sent everybody this:

Hi All,

I checked with Norton Anti-Virus, and they are gearing up for this virus!

I checked snopes.com, and it is for real!! http://www.snopes.com/computer/virus/postcard.asp

Get this E-mail message sent around to your contacts ASAP.

PLEASE FORWARD THIS WARNING AMONG FRIENDS, FAMILY AND CONTACTS!

You should be alert during the next few days. Do not open any message with an attachment entitled 'POSTCARD,' regardless of who sent it to you. It is a virus which opens A POSTCARD IMAGE, which 'burns' the whole hard disc C of your computer. This virus will be received from someone who has your e-mail address in his/her contact list. This is the reason why you need to send this e-mail to all your contacts. It is better to receive this message 25 times than to receive the virus and open it.

If you receive a mail called' POSTCARD,' even though sent to you by a friend, do not open it.! Shut down your computer immediately.

This is the worst virus announced by CNN. It has been classified by Microsoft as the most destructive virus ever. This virus was discovered by McAfee yesterday, and there is no repair yet for this kind of virus. This virus simply destroys the Zero Sector of the Hard Disc, where the vital information is kept.

COPY THIS E-MAIL, AND SEND IT TO YOUR FRIENDS. REMEMBER: IF YOU SEND IT TO THEM, YOU WILL BENEFIT ALL OF US.
so funny, he knows i use linux too :D
if i were to get it i would send it to my spam email address that nobody knows about and forward it to everybody i know so that they have no more excuses to use windows(currently there only excuse is that they have windows already installed)

that would be rather malicious and i dont think i would want to associate myself with such a user if someone ever did that.

Linux is not only about freedom but its about freedom of choice.
if somone would rather pay for an operating system rather than using a free one then let them, its their decision. Only whe they are unhappy with their dicision can you suggest alternatives.

Spamming windows users with a virus purely because of their choice of operating system seems rather facist. Not to mention get yourself fired if your ever found out.

PS:- I LUVS YOU KIWI!

Surely if it wipes the hard drive, you could just reformat it?

ok wtf does it mean when he says "burns your HDD" that makes no sense

my first bit of advice, "If you don't know the sender DON'T OPEN IT"

I don't understand how people can be so stupid, the original email was obliviously a fraud.

Someone obviously thought it was worthwhile to send around again.

Your friend needs to consult google before spamming people with useless warnings.

and how many windows users that don't know how to tell that they have a virus make regular hard drive backups?

I don't understand how people can be so stupid, the original email was obliviously a fraud.it creates a loop in your hard drive and it physically burns a whole in one of the magnetic plates, completely rendering your hard drive useless

my first bit of advice: "dont use windows, it makes you get viruses"
and to the guy who suggested reformatting

why would I want to reformat? my computer works just fine without the virus, and I prefer to use my computer rather than have the windows installer corrupt my hard drive 3 times before it gets it right
