View Full Version : Linked images not displayed ?

Hi,

A while back I pasted some images into a thread and they displayed fine. I just revisited the thread and the majority of the images are no longer displaying. Having a look at the links tell me they are still active.

http://ubuntuforums.org/showpost.php?p=2798127&postcount=29
http://ubuntuforums.org/showpost.php?p=2798229&postcount=31

Right clicking on the little icon and selecting 'View Image' opens the images just fine in a new tab.

Using Arch+KDEmod and Konqueror(3.5.8) as my browser.

Any ideas?

Edit:

Edit2:
First image is making a new IMG link.

Second (image not displayed) is copying your code from one of the posts.
Strange..

bapoumba if you just posted an image I can't see it.

I can't see the ones in the above links either.

I'm using Firefox 3 b3 (on Ubuntu 7.10) :)

That's strange. Today at work, I clicked on the link posted by mips, can't see anything. Then, at home I can see it. Must be blocked for some reason.

Pretty fishes, btw.

That is even stranger.. Please check the screenshot. The IMG link I made, I can see, the code I pasted from mips's post, I cannot..
Epiphany here, Ubuntu 7.10.

I am now quoting post #2 of this thread. Using Firefox 1.5.0.1, I can not see any images in that post. However, the HTML source of this page clearly shows that there ought to be images:

When I tried to 'quote' that post for the first time, the 'Reply to Thread' window showed the fish. I then went back to the post #2, and Firefox briefly displayed the fish there, too, but only briefly.

Now it's not showing images either when showing the thread or when replying.

Well, anyway, thanks for all the fish.

I just came to the same conclusion.

Internet Explorer (sic!) displays a small square with a red x where the image is supposed to be. Directly opening the image source in the browser shows the fish. After opening the image directly, it is shown in the post as well, but only until you refresh the page.

I googled about this (sorry, I'm not much web literate).

I do not understand why I see my own <img> when I do not see one pasted from mips's post. They go to the same website.
Screenshot 1: code from my post#2
Screenshot 2: popch's post.

Ah okay, it's because the img I used (and got from opening it directly in another tab) is in my cache.. Okay, that makes sense :)

Try clearing the cache or even only reloading the page.

The cause of the problem is that some sites which offer images for viewing analyze the request your browser sends. If the site then decides that you link to the image from within another page, it will refuse to yield the image. The purpose is, of course, not to have anyone have your content when you don't have his traffic. Otherwise it would be too easy to bypass any adverts. It would also be too easy to claim the images linked to as your own.

Other sites substitute the picture in that situation for another one which you might not like. I had this happen to me just the other day.

EDIT: I see that you have just found out.

Thanks popch, we posted at the same time, and this is what I guessed from your previous post.

Well, mips, you have your answer ;)
